The Royal Artillery regiment cap badge with Kings crown, Ca.1902 to 52. Also Known as " The Gunners ".

The British army have always used cannons up until 1716, provided by artillery trains that were raised and disbanded on a campaign- by- campaign basis. King George 1 issued a Royal warden to set up two permanent field artillery companies of a 100 men.

In 1899 The Royal Artillery was split in to three arms - The Royal Field Artillery,

The Royal Horse Artillery and The Royal Garrison Artillery.
